There are several factors that influence the "burn rate" of your body.

The burn rate means the number of calories that your body burns in a given time.
When the burn rate is higher, you need more calories during a day, than another person with a lower burn rate.

Amongst these factors are:

* Weight
* Height
* Gender
* and a measure that's called "PAL" or physical activity level.
If you know all of the above you can calculate a quite good estimate of the actual daily calorie needs of your body.
That way you will know, how much you can eat without gaining weight.
Sounds complicated, and in fact, it is :-(
Therefore I have developed an Excel spreadsheet, the calorie calculator that will calculate the complicated formula (that has been developed by the WHO scientists) for you.
