2. Do You Make These South Beach Diet Mistakes ?

The South Beach Diet works, for most people. Its low fat, low carb approach helps you lose weight quickly and easily. Health benefits are great too.

But there's some easy mistakes you must avoid.

Gain Weight in Phase 2

Most people do well being strict in Phase 1. But what happens when you switch into Phase 2 ? Often, you put some weight back on again. Why ? Because your body's starved of carbs for 2 or 3 weeks. At the start of Phase 2 it grabs at every carb you give it, and turns them into fat. I learned this lesson the hard way, gaining 2 lbs in my first Phase 2 week. So reintroduce carbs slowly when you go into Phase 2, and make sure they're good carbs.

Feel Hungry

Yes, if South Beach makes you hungry, you're doing it wrong. You don't need to feel hungry. Eat 3 meals a day, with snacks in between, choosing from the foods allowed in your current phase.

Stay in Phase 1 for too Long

Isn't Phase 1 great ? You can lose from 8 to 13 lbs in just 2 weeks, without being hungry. So why leave Phase 1 ? Why not keep up your rapid weight loss ? Because you must start adding some carbs back in. A healthy diet includes some good carbs like wholemeal bread, porridge and fruit. A permanent Phase 1 also gets a little boring, and you'll start to cheat. Yes you will. A few biscuits here, a few biscuits there, and soon you're cheating rather than dieting. It's better to switch into Phase 2 after 2-3 weeks, and accept a slower healthier weight loss.

Fall Victim to Bread Craving

How many people list 'bread' as an addiction ? Seriously, there's a lot. Unfortunately, white bread is right near the top of the Glycemic index, and about the worst food you can eat on your diet. When you get into Phase 2 you're allowed to eat bread, but only slices of wholemeal. Same with rice and pasta. Small amounts, and ideally whole grain versions. Bad carbs add weight.

Ignore the Health Benefits

Most people start a diet to lose weight. I guess that's what a diet is for. But some diets, particularly South Beach, have major health benefits. In fact, it's worth going on the South Beach Diet just for the health benefits, even if you don't lose weight (but you do). My blood pressure was high when I started. After 3 weeks it was back to normal. People with pre-diabetes, or potential heart problems, can much reduce their risk by following this diet. So there's lots of beneficial internal changes in your blood chemistry happening while you're losing weight.

So if you follow the South Beach Diet properly, you'll get great results. You'll lose weight quickly, keep it off, and get some major health benefits.

3. Garlic Chicken Pasta

Makes: 4 servings

Ingredients:

- 8 ounces whole-wheat fettuccine or linguine pasta
- 1 tablespoons garlic, minced
- 3 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 3 tomatoes, chopped
- 1/2 cup onion, chopped
- 3/4 cup green pepper, chopped
- 1/3 cup tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning

Directions:

- Cook pasta according to package directions. Drain well and return to the pot.
- Rinse and cut all the visible fat off of chicken breasts. Cut chicken breasts into thin strips. Coat a large skillet with nonstick cooking spray (nonfat). Add the garlic and chicken, and stir-fry over medium heat for 4-7 minutes, or until the chicken is well cooked.
- Reduce heat to low, add the remaining ingredients (except pasta) to the skillet. Cover and simmer for about 10 minutes, stir occasionally.
- Add the pasta to the skillet, and stir gently.

Nutritional Information:

- Serving size: 1 1/2 cup
- Calories: 325
- Fat: 3 g
- Cholesterol: 35 mg
- Protein: 25 g
- Carbs: 40 g
- Fiber: 4 g

4. Condition Yourself For Success

A primary reason most people don't get the kind of results, don't make the right decisions and don't feel how they want to feel much of the time is that they don't understand any of the "Why's" of life. Like, why do you go to work?

Well, some obvious reasons are to make money so that you can eat, clothe yourself and your family. Many are motivated to go to work every day because they'd be bored just sitting around. And if they want to go to Myrtle Beach next month, they better go earn some money.

Will this type of mindset ensure happiness in the job? Success? Continued employment?

And their employers aren't thinking about Myrtle Beach or Jamaica or anywhere else. The nature of their organization (Not that their bosses focus on this very often) is to develop an environment conducive to creating and selling great products and services that effectively and easily solve specific problems.

But do most people at the top of organizations spend much time keeping the nature of the organization in mind, or do they get lost in the daily details?

Another example... The nature of teaching, first should be to instill the love of the learning in students, but is that what 99% of teachers do? Do most 10-22 year olds love school? Do they put anywhere near their all into their studies? Not hardly. The nature of the job called Teacher has been buried 3 miles down, and it's the rare individual that inspires.

Half of all marriages end in divorce in the U.S. Why?

Too often it's because people are only thinking about their own wants instead of the other person.! The nature of marriage is a partnership. But not very many people consider how insane some of their relationships have been as they're once again getting swept away in the passionate beginnings of a new nutty pairing.

The most extraordinarily successful people in all areas of life, whether they're aware of it or not, have an understanding of what they're supposed to do in those roles.

For example, the very best workers at every level in every company are focused on terrifically serving their bosses, their subordinates, their customers, their vendors... they're making sure that all their areas of responsibility are handled as well as it can possibly be. No ifs, ands or buts.

They pay close attention to the implications of all their actions.

The best advertising aims directly to a person's greatest reasons for buying. And so it sells more.

The best actors, the best athletes, the best assembly line workers and the best garbage men aren't just taking up space putting in their time. As Vince Lombardi put it, they're not just practicing, they're perfectly practicing, doing their jobs well every minute.

The best husbands and wives, boyfriends and girlfriends all understand the nature of the relationship, that it's about being a couple and doing things that make the relationship great.

The very best salespeople love other people so much and care so much about helping their customers that they often sell double, triple and even 50 times more than everyone else.

This understanding of the true nature of what you're doing isn't just about work.

It's really about your purpose in life. If you're distraught every day wondering why you're even alive, why you have the problems you do, and are drowning your sorrows in booze, drugs, food, abusive relationships and basically enduring out some horribly written life script...

Or if most things are pretty good but you fear what's coming up in your life, then close your eyes and take as long as you need to imagine how the people you admire the most would think and feel about your situations. What would they believe?

What would they do? How would they do it?

Make this a daily practice, and you'll very quickly begin to feel those ways, take those exact same actions, and get the exact same results. Not rocket science.

When you begin to look for the true nature of everything you're asked to do in life, depression should cease to be a problem... Fear, will be start to become a success starter instead of a crippling emotion.

And true happiness and contentment will be a way of life...
